Course Management System
To support the development of academic programs and scheduling of subjects the university has to maintain a lot of data on each academic subject. This system provides the colleges with the maintenance of a subject characteristic database.
This system supports the co-ordination of the approved subjects with the lecturer’s and classrooms (and other resources) available. This system helps the students to register the appropriate subjects for each program and check for the prerequisite. Support is given for online subject registration based on the subjects offered for the current semester.
- Course Scheduling -
SMS provides a comprehensive subject-scheduling module for the university to schedule the subjects based on the staff and classroom availability. It will have the following details.
- Subject information.
- Staff in charge of the subject.
- Room allocated.
- Schedule days and time in a week.
- Subject status (Open / Closed).
- Starting date of the subject and last registration date.
- Offered semester.
- Overlapping of classes for staff and room location can be closely monitored through a graphical chart.
- Course Registration -
SMS will allow the student to register the subjects both offline and online based on the subject schedule. Student can register the subjects using the Student portal system (developed using web technology) through Internet. System will check for the following before the student registers the subject.
- Check for pre-requisite subjects have been finished.
- Check whether the student is eligible to take the subject for a semester.
- Check whether the student has taken a choice subject.
- Check for the maximum credit points per semester.
- Course Withdrawal / Deferment -
SMS supports withdrawal of subject / program with the provision for calculating the withdrawal amount to the student based on the withdrawal policy, which can be maintained in the system.
SMS also supports student deferment where by a student can be deferred when the student wishes to temporarily withdraw from the program for a short period. - Reports
